The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning 'completion' (completorium). It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day.
Compline is sung by the choir every Friday in Lent in St John's Church, Milborne Port. It is sung a capello to ancient plainsong, including the responses and the Psalm. Only the hymn is sung in harmony.
